Self Help - Levels of Consciousness

Our level of consciousness explains our awareness of our daily life. Our perceptions of the world reflect our relationship with it, which in turn is a result of our level of consciousness.

The way in which the world reflects upon our consciousness is different for each of us and varies from day to day, however I hope this overview will give you a frame of reference to work from.

Firstly there are the major points of view which depend on whether we are man or woman - vive la diference! Our approach to self help will be different depending on our gender.

It is not necessary to see each others position, and it may not be possible to see each others position, but a little understanding sure helps clarify points of view.

If you haven't clicked on the opposite gender - you're not very curious are you? If it didn't make sense to you it doesn't matter, first understand yourself, then worry about understanding the opposite sex.

We may never understand the opposite sex, but the book : Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus by John Gray will at least explain how to communicate with them.

In order to map out where each of us is coming from (or going to), here are the seven levels of being. The first three tend to reflect personality type, not a stage of evolution, but from there on .....

Understanding your predominant level of consciousness provides you with a guage of where you are and where self help is taking you.

The Levels of Consciousness :

Security

People who work out of the security level of consciousness find their lives ruled by a need of avoiding risk, whether emotional or career, in particular career. They avoid outside influences, and observe life from behind an impenatrable comfort zone. They have a tendancy to accumulate material goods. Being a member of a club, group or church provides them with a sense of belonging.

Sensation

For these people, everything must be bigger, better, more dramatic. Lives life as an observer, but likes to appear to be a mover and shaker. Accumulates hangers on. Is more independent than the security level, but is likely to be a member of a club, group or church to have an audience.

Power

Takes risks, manipulates others, uses others. Principle motivation is to cause people to see and do things their way. Aquires wealth and influence in order to aquire more wealth and influence. Power becomes an end in itself. Dictatorial tendancies. Is basically independent, but is likely to be a member of a club, group or church to attain a position of authority..

Whilst for some people their lives are ridgidly defined by one of these consciousness types, some people move from one type to another daily as a process of evolution and development.

Those who have expanded their perception of reality beyond their mere physical do not fear change because their reality is not threatened by physical outward events. In fact, change and thus self help, can be viewed as a state of excitement.

Love

I am talking about unconditional love. People who work from this level find their principle motivation is the well being of others. They see in others a positive reflection of self, ie: I'm Ok, you're Ok. They tend to have an altruistic outlook, caring personality, is well centered. Love for all others is a reflection of high self esteem.

People who operate from this level have detached themselves from the imperatives of the lower 4 levels of consciousness. They are able to observe themselves acting out those roles. At this level of consciousness, one is aware of all the interactions making the tapestry of life. This is the level of the non judgemental. They are in control of life without needing to exert control. This person is a master of their life.

Cosmic Awareness

A fully enlightened being who is living at one with the Universal truths and mind. They have achieved trancendance of daily cause and effect and have total mastery of their existence.

Christ Consciousness

This is the level of awareness attained by the avatars and those who achieve "super consciousness".

Such an exhalted state is beyond my humble comprehension at this time. This level of consciousness is achieved by few, and religeons are usually based on the lives of such entities!

Self Help Note : Progressing from one level of consciousness to another is not some form of contest. You may experience any particular level of consciousness at any time.

Becoming enlightened is not a competition - there is no first prize! Expanding your awareness is its own reward.

There is only the journey of life - you have free will - enjoy!
